There is a story behind this Poinsettia.
I got him four years ago for Christmas. A few weeks later he started losing his red leaves and I figured he was on his way out. I thought he was one of those plants that only lasts a year, so I thought about throwing him away, but I decided to hang onto him to see what happened.
A couple of months later he was in pretty rough shape and seemed to be dying on his own. But I didn't want to give up.
So I started caring a LOT more for him. I made sure he was watered regularly. I gave him new soil. I talked to him from time to time.
And then I took him outside.
Wow!!
He came almost immediately back to life. Started growing new leaves (green) and after a few months was sprouting new branches of leaves.
He looked great! Lots and lots of green leaves.
Then, three and a half years later, I saw a hint of red on one of his leaves. I was sure that was a fluke but a few days later another leaf had a hint of red. Then several leaves. Then an entire leaf turned red. Bright red.
I was blown away. And now, four years later, he's a VERY happy and almost entirely red Poinsettia again.
Hmm.
So a little bit of love and care can go a long way!
