Do Plants Communicate With Humans?

I'm not sure what kind of plant this is. I have three of them in my home office. My wife at first didn't like them and was not thrilled when I got the second one. But then she grew to like them and I fairly quickly went out and got a third one.

One of them (pictured here) is located behind my printer and next to my answering machine. A few weeks ago, I went over to clear the messages and a drop of water fell on my hand. I looked up to the ceiling hoping there wasn't a leak. Hmm. Nothing there I could see.

And then I experienced a communication of sorts from the plant along the lines of, "yes, that was me."

I moved my hand over and touched the leaf closest to me and noticed it was slightly damp.

Okay, all very interesting.

Then a few days ago, I'm clearing messages off of the machine and ANOTHER drop of water hits my hand. No need to look at the ceiling this time. The plant again is moist to the touch. Not running with drops of water on it, mind you, just damp. When you look at the leaf and feel how moist it is (which was not very moist) you realize it took quite a bit of time to accumulate that drop of water.

Then to have that drop of water come off the plant twice onto my hand?

Well, I've always loved my plants and yes, I talk to them from time to time. There's an exceptional book entitled "The Secret World of Plants" and this book discusses all kinds of incredibly intimate and factual accounts of how plants and humans relate with each other.

So I've concluded the plant simply wanted to thank me for bringing him home, for watering him, talking with him from time to time.

No, he has NOT complained about being close to a printer and answering machine. He seems quite happy there.
